The National Museum in Colombo  is one of the most beautiful and important sites a tourist must visit. On entering the museum, one gets to see a large statue of Buddha smiling mysteriously.

The museum gives a lot of information about the times when the British ruled Sri Lanka. Various forms of art, sculpture and drawings give an insight into the history of Sri Lanka, or Ceylon as it was known earlier.

The throne of King Wimaladharma and the 9th- Century Boddhisatva Sandals are certainly the highlights of the museum.

The Dutch Museum   must be visited if one wants an insight into the history of Sri Lanka. Originally, the museum was the place of residence of the then Dutch Governor, but later was used as a  military  hospital, a police station and a post office.

The museum is surrounded by a lovely garden and is a beautiful example of Dutch Architecture. It was the venue when the King of Kandy signed a treaty and allowed traders to enter Ceylon on business purpose.

fort Viharamahadevi ParkFort  is the financial center of Sri Lanka. As the name goes, historically, it served as a fort during the European rule of Ceylon. One can see the twin tower which is one of the most important landmarks of the city. The Fort is also the headquarters to various financial banks of Sri Lanka.

Viharamahadevi Park   was originally called the Victoria Park and is today Colombo’s largest park. The Park’s uniqueness lies in its beautiful trees and the flowers which bloom from March to early May. Often, elephants find food here and use this place to rest as well.

It is a beautiful place to take a stroll early in the morning or after a hard day’s work.
